In the essay Russolo understands sound and noise as anything, anything that creates sound. Anything that creates sounds, such as instruments, singing, whipping of a flag, and just about anything else. He starts by talking about how music didn't start till the 19th century when machines became popular. But later tells how noise is more than the negative feels we have of annoying sounds. He finds sound and noise to be anything around us.
This does change how I think of noise, because I find myself thinking about what the make up of the sound or noise is rather than what my first reaction is. Also I find myself thinking about sounds in their own rhythm, and not just if its annoying or pleasant.
Through out the essay I found it though to read and understand his point as he makes it into a sonic experience. It was tough to understand and I didn't really pick up on it. But what I could tell he used how the words sound as the actual sound that is made, like pam-pam-pam.
The categories of noises that he describes are
1- roars, claps, noises of falling water, driving noises, bellows
2-whistles, snores, snorts
3-whispers, mutterings, rustlings, grumbles, grunts, gurgles
4-shrill sounds, cracks buzzings, jingles, shuffles
5-percussive noises using: metal, wood, skin, stone backed earth, etc.
6-animal and human voices: shouts, moans, screams, laughter, rattling, etc.
